Our New Home

Here is a little video of our new home in Alaska. We are really enjoying the house and trying to make it a place where people feel welcome. It has a lot of character with a few unique touches and also a few raw or unfinished aspects, but we like it. The community here is small (about 200 people) and they seem to keep to themselves some but we hope to be a blessing to those here. It has been described to us as a rather depressed place. Not much life. There isn't a church (closest gas station, mini food mart, and church are about 30 minutes) so we see a need to reach out. It is an adventure, for sure!

Transitions are hard...period... end of story. The more I experience them (going to college, getting married, setting up a house, learning to be a wife, having a baby, learning to be a mom, moving, moving, moving), the more I realize the need to be patient with myself. You can't unload all the boxes and have your house all set up in 24 hours. A new location isn't going to feel like home in one week. But you also have to act. And thankfully, Brandon is encouraging in kicking me into gear... he helps motivate me to get out in the community... get us in a routine... set up house... etc. Beyond this, though, I have also learned the need to seek the desire of the Lord, not just standards put on me by myself or others. He guides and He is the one I should seek to please and be approved by. It all takes discipline and I have a lot to learn for sure. Almost everyday, I am caught off guard by so many areas where growth still needs to take place, but I am thankful for how He has grown me as a wife, mother, and mover and I am also thankful I have come to learn and identify more about the ends and outs of transitions.

Silly though it may be, one of my challenges at present is trying to get my body used to this 24 hours of light. Other than that, I am doing fairly well... with all the change and settling and adjustment and a quick little crawler on my hands, life is just busy. Praying for and looking forward to hopefully finding a sort of a kindred spirit to journey close alongside (thankful I have Brandon, but having someone else would be nice during these 10-12 hour days that he has been working, but maybe that won't be so... I can trust Him with that). Be sure to check out the next post, because I'll be talking about stuff we hope to do.
