Kaylee's Birthday

We had a really good time celebrating the gift of Kaylee's first year of life. She is such a joy and, although it is challenging, we are so thankful that we have the honor of raising her. We enjoyed skyping and talking with family and friends, and topped the day off by opening our home to a few of the people we have met here in Anderson. We took some video of the day and a couple pictures, so here you go!

 Good morning birthday girl!

This was actually her second attempt at cake.
The morning of her birthday, she tried cake. Initially, she seemed to like it. She ate a few bites
and made some cute, excited faces/noises. Most of all, she seemed to like playing in the frosting.
But after a while of playing in the frosting, I tried giving her a couple bites on the spoon and after the second or third, she started making unpleasant faces and gagging. We're not sure if it was sugar shock since she had never had sugar or the texture (or maybe my cake),but after that bite, her lips were sealed! Haha. (I ate more just licking my fingers/picking up crumbs than she did) We didn't get the first gag on video but there is a subsequent cough/gag. I think she just wasn't sure what to think. It often takes a time or two for her to really like something. I'm sure she'll give sugar a chance in the future, but for now, we'll keep feeding her the veggies, fruits, cheese, and grains that she seems to like best. : ) Needless to say, the videos of it are a little slow and somewhat anticlimactic but still kind of cute.

Now onto party time!
Quick and easy little invites that we handed out whenever we met someone new : )

Papa did a great job with the streamers

On the menu: red and black licorice, oreo ladybugs, dirt cake,
ladybug cupcakes, ladybug apples, chips and dip, veggies, pretzels, and lemonade!

I know she won't remember any of it, but I sure had fun decorating and making all the goodies

 Close ups

Yum

Red n black

And here's the little lady herself!!!
She struggled with having so many new people in her house,
but hopefully soon she will start to adjust to her new surroundings and get over her "Stranger Danger"

  1. It was fascinating watching Kaylee! Fun to hear Scott & Susan on Skype and Brandon's mom, and Brandon's voice, too! What cute eats you made for her party -- darling!
You all are bright spots and great examples to the people of the town you're living in -- God's loving light! Bless you! Love, Aunt Jan
