4 weeks and changing quickly!!!

Kaylee is 4 weeks old!!! It is crazy to think. Each day is super full yet the weeks go so quickly. Not only is she getting bigger, but she is also changing developmentally as well. Physically, she is slowly getting longer (onsies are starting to fit a little more snug in the shoulders and we had to adjust the straps on her carseat), she is losing her baby fuzz on top of her head (giving her a nice ring around the bottom :) ), and she continues to grow in circumference as well (she knows how to eat). Developmentally, she just started coordinating the movement of her hand to her mouth. This excites her and she'll sit there and do it repeatedly, but eventually grows upset when she gets sucking on her fist vigorously and nothing comes out. She also enjoys looking for and listening to her little rattle, and once in a while, she will grasp it and accomplish making it rattle on her own. She is focusing much better as well. Just this afternoon, I twisted up her mobile, and she immediately began staring at it as it went around. Up until this point, she could only focus on things that were about a foot in front of her, but it seems like this is quickly increasing, and she is enjoying seeing new things. It's fun to see her change, but it is also sad that she is growing up so quickly. :) We just love this little girl to pieces!!!

This week also contained another milestone; our first family road trip! We had fun as a family, driving six hours to Grand Junction for a marriage celebration for my brother and his wife. I was a little intimidated by the thought of making this trip with a newborn, considering Kaylee sometimes wants a one hour fill up every two-three hours and often spontaneously screams for 2-3 hours at the decibel of a fire truck. However, my deep love for my brother conquered these fears, and I knew it would be worth it!!! (And...for the record: it was). So Brandon and I decided we would embrace the adventure, and Kaylee actually did really well, which was a huge blessing.

Blessings are truly all around us. I'll often look at Brandon and say, "How does this happen?". It just seems like God is so active and providing in so many ways. But really, I have come to realize, that nothing has changed with God, the change has taken place with the eyes of my heart. Just as Kaylee is learning to focus, I have begun seeing new things as well. It saddens me to think that I have missed so much, that God has wanted me to see His hand at work in so many ways over the years, yet I have been blind. It's not that I have not had times in life where I am actively seeking and looking for His provision and blessings, but it is not as normal as I wish it were. With this, I also have realized that God gives so many opportunities to be used by Him and to give Him glory, but my eyes are often blind to this as well. But let me tell ya, it is wonderful when they aren't. Often I doubt or hesitate or ignore or simply don't seek, yet He wants us to see His blessings and He wants to use us in amazing ways. So... my prayer is that my eyes will be open and I will continue to see new things just like Kaylee.

  1. I absolutely love the little outfit Kaylee is wearing with this 'big blue' pose.
