Poor little girl broke her collar bone when she didn't land on her feet at the bottom on the slide. It is horribly sad that it happened and I feel terrible but she seems to be handling it like a champ. The only way I knew something was wrong is that she would start to cry and hold her shoulder when I picked her up, so I took her in and they x-rayed it and gave her a cute little sling. She weasles her arm out of the Ace bandage that is wrapped around the sling somewhat often but overall, she is really good about wearing it. We don't know yet how long she'll have the sling or how long until she is 100% but we will try to take one day at a time. I've told people that the twos haven't treated her well so far. On the 27th she turned two, while dealing with a nasty cold and the next day she cracked her little collar bone. I have to say, though, she did get some royal treatment in the midst of it all (especially from Papa), and we were also able to have a fun little birthday breakfast with some extended family to celebrate her special life. She is a gift and we love her beyond words!
After her spill, I have found myself pretty down in the dumps to be honest. I felt blame for her accident, I felt laziness in getting our house put together/working on our to do list, I felt sadness from missing my friends up north, I felt discouragement with lack of direction and purpose here in our new location. I am not much for patience, and I know I need to grow in this arena but I am also praying that the Lord will meet me where I am in a very real way; that He will take my hand in the moments ahead and that I will be obedient in seeking Him. He did use a sweet friend to speak encouraging words into my life after Kaylee fell and allowed my parents to be on their way through Colorado Springs to help us during our time in the hospital, and for that I am definitely thankful. Brandon has also been extra gracious through it all, which I know isn't easy. God is here just like He was there.
As for our trip down here, it was full of many neat experiences and beautiful sights but it was long as well. Unfortunately, I started off the trip with a pretty bad cold myself, which changed our plans a little bit. During the first 2 days of travel, we drove from Fairbanks down through Canada and then into Haines, Alaska, where we spent 2 days before boarding the ferry. In Haines, we got on the ferry in the evening, and spent 4 nights onboard. We got off the ferry in Bellingham, WA and drove from there to Colorado Springs, with a detour through Yellowstone National Park. I wrote a journal of our journey along the way, which will be in the next post. For now, here's a few pictures and videos from the past couple months.
Yep... she's got style
Brandon has been wanting to pick up his Russian again so he has started
using it with Kaylee to help. In the process, he found a Russian version of
Sesame Street for the two of them to watch and Kaylee has come to like it a lot.
It's a special treat for her to get to watch it, and as you can tell, she gets pretty excited : )
Family photo before the snow melted
Earlier in the winter, we figured out how to hook Kaylee's sled up so Smokey could pull her in his harness.
Kaylee absolutely loved going on walks this way, Smokey loved having a job, and I loved getting some fresh air out on the still, quiet paths.
Here we go!
Kaylee and Papa having fun during our last night in our Alaska house
Being silly during our fun stay in the dorms at Clear
Our last youth activity... gonna miss these kids more than they know.
Praying for the Lord's faithfulness to continue to do a good work in their hearts.
What kid doesn't like water?!?
Love this girl

Still rockin' her pony one handed

My goodness Emily, how this blog helps me to know what you're going through. You must have arrived pretty exhausted from Alaska, and then to move into your new house! It's hard to keep up the pace, and you've got to recuperate to regain strength. The motivation will come. I do pray for you, God bless your heart! And then, Kaylee breaks her collarbone! That's a lot to deal with. Bless her heart!
ReplyDeleteI love the "Stylin" photo! Very fun. All the photos are neat.
You've made a difference in those young people's lives. God will keep ahold of them and help them grow. God bless you for being faithful!
Love, Aunt Jan
